White Beach

White Beach
Santorini, Greece

Secluded and reachable only by boat, White Beach is covered by black sand with large grey and white pebbles on Santorini. The sand color reveals the geological layer that is exposed. Santorini island is believed to be the lost city of Atlantis, as told by Ancient Greek philosopher Plato. Santorini was formed from an enormous volcanic explosion in the Aegean Sea 3,600 years ago. Possibly the largest volcanic explosion in recorded history, the sun darkened for several years and volcanic ash deposited around the world.
