"Let's get wasted!," Joy Goodall, 19, of Toledo says in her cousin's apartment in South Toledo. Empty beer cans, alcohol bottles and CDs litter the room. The carpet is covered in loose tobacco. Loud rap music blares from the stereo. Bathroom towels cover the windows as drapes. The other girls are 18 years old, the oldest man is 25.
Joy is passed a marijuana joint by her cousin, Jesse Dotts of Toledo.
"My life sucks and there is nothing better to do," Joy says as she smokes a marijuana joint. She has different drug dealers to buy different drugs. "One I found just walking down the street," she says.
Joy, left, and Jesse pass the joint back and forth.
Joy takes long drinks of different types of hard liquor, drinking a beer after as a chaser, as the bottles are passed around the room.
Both drunk and stoned, Joy, left, and her cousin Jesse joke about who is stronger and feel each others muscles.
Back at home in her own apartment an hour later, Joy repeatedly says she doesn't feel well. "I don't think I can move," she says as she lays on her kitchen floor smoking a cigarette.
She crawls into the bathroom and leans against the toilet for support.
Joy decides to make herself throw up and sticks her finger down her throat.
"I feel a lot better," Joy says after vomiting for about 20 minutes. "I'm ready to drink more," she says after wiping her mouth.
